Mulberry Door – Luxe Comfort Food

Tomorrow, a lovely lady redefines comfort food the way she knows how to and was accustomed to growing up. She calls it LUXE COMFORT FOOD. With a passion to share what she loves, Trish Panlilio is upping the game of the comfort food scene, and aims to please. The Mulberry Door is Trish’s new baby. Apart from being the brains behind the successful Gourmand Market at the Fort which runs about five times a year, this is where you will find her as she makes her dream come true.

She has partnered with her sons in this endeavor, which is another dream fulfilled. They describe this place to be their second home and meticulously attend to every detail, hoping to make the place seem like a second home for their diners as well. I will let the photos speak for themselves. Congratulations Trish and may you never lose your passion in preparing delicious food for your patrons.

While the term comfort food varies these days and may seem simple, it is actually quite complex. Each persons description will be very different from the next depending on culture, nationality, how they were raised, what they were fed and how they were taught to eat. In America, many would say a grilled cheese sandwich with a cup of tomato soup does the trick. While a Japanese lady I spoke to said her grandmother’s tempura for breakfast was hers. Breaded Ebi (shrimp) being fried and wafting the air as she would get ready for class would be her motivation to start the day.

She would rush to get first dibs of the light, heavenly and piping hot tempura melting in her mouth. In my case it would be a toss up between arroz ala cubana (minced meat with fried bananas and a fried egg on top of a very pretty mold of rice) or siningang (a Filipino dish of beef or pork in sour meat broth with sinigang vegetables and loads of plump tomatoes) just like my grandfather used to make it.

Here are Trish’s versions…

apple and Q-rizo salpicao

a cozy nook for two she calls the mulberry corner (apart from which, she also has a mulberry lounge where small intimate groups can gather and a communal work space) charming!

you gotta love this lavatory

Give Mulberry Door a try as Trish serves familiar food that’s hearty and not easy to tire of. Her menu will be ever evolving as she discovers her customers needs.  Healthy options will also be available for the crowds that gather in the buildings many fitness centers.
